Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to be a key part of Arne Slot’s new side this coming season, but the key work for the Reds will come off the field. Real Madrid have identified Alexander-Arnold as a target for the summer of 2025, as they look to get younger at right-back.

Lucas Vazquez and Dani Carvajal are both into their thirties now, and while they continue to perform at a high level, Alexander-Arnold is considered a major opportunity, if indeed he is available on a free. The England international is out of contract next year, and can sign a deal with Los Blancos in five months time.

As such, Liverpool Sporting Director Richard Hughes has made it a priority to get Alexander-Arnold to sign a new deal. The Athletic say they will look to move quickly once he returns from his post-Euro 2024 holidays.

Real Madrid also have the added advantage of Alexander-Arnold’s close friend Jude Bellingham in their squad, and recent reports in England state that Bellingham has been trying to persuade the 25-year-old to join him in the Spanish capital. Vazquez will be 34 for by the start of next season and Carvajal shall be 33: the latter continues to be one of the best in the world, but it would be no surprise if Los Blancos were working on a succession plan.
