Liverpool remain eager to sign one of the brightest centre-back prospects around, according to reports. But they're hardly alone in wanting Dean Huijsen.

Football Insider claims Liverpool are still in the running for Dean Huijsen. They're joined by Aston Villa in that, with both clubs seeing him as 'one for the future'.

Though, at 19, you'd be surprised if they didn't.

This is far from the first time Liverpool have been linked with Huijsen. The centre-back has had an interesting season, joining AS Roma on loan from Juventus in January and playing regularly over the second half of the season.

That included a remarkable goal, described as 'magic' on Serie A's YouTube channel. Huijsen picked the ball up on the halfway line, beat a pressing forward and burst through the middle of Frosinone. He carried it all the way to the edge of the box, dribbled past another defender, then curled it into the far corner.

It's also worth noting that Huijsen had rejected an offer from Frosinone, leading to them booing him whenever he touched the ball. He was booked for his celebrations and tensions were high enough that he was subbed off at half-time.

Perfect football, in other words.

Liverpool and Dean Huijsen

Liverpool do have space in their squad for a centre-back after Joel Matip's exit but it's arguable that Jarell Quansah filled that gap a long time ago. If that's the case, we don't really see how the Reds could offer Huijsen the first-team football he'd want.

Juventus are unlikely to let him go cheap, either - he's on a contract until 2028. We'd be talking a lot of money, then, for a player Liverpool don't necessarily need, as good as he is.

We're not sure this one will happen as it just doesn't quite add up for this summer. No one should entirely write it off - but we'd rather see more from Quansah than Huijsen arrive.
