Liverpool "got the job done" in their win away to Girona and will be a "very tough game" for anyone they face this season, says former defender Stephen Warnock.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live after the Reds' 1-0 victory in the Champions League on Tuesday evening that kept their perfect record in the competition this campaign, Warnock said: "Not Liverpool's greatest performance but it is a job well done.

"They were a little bit fortuitous with the penalty but the same result as usual for Mohamed Salah. He missed against Real Madrid a couple of weeks back but came back and made sure he got it and they get the three points.

"Liverpool weren't at their best but they got the job done and that is the main thing.

"Not much was expected this year of Liverpool, but in the changing room there would have been a lot of people saying, 'no, we can go on a good run, we can be dominant in both competitions'.

"Would they have thought it would have been to this degree? I'm not so sure. What we can say is, Liverpool for anyone will be a very, very tough game this season in both the Premier League and the Champions League."
