The Houston Texans' 2024 start has picked up right where the 2023 season left off. Houston won the AFC South last year and is out to a two-game lead in the division over the Colts halfway through the season, and the Texans have already swept Indianapolis, so they hold the tiebreaker over the only other team in the division without a losing record. C.J. Stroud is among the league leaders in passing yards once again, but he'll be without one of his top targets for the rest of the year, with Stefon Diggs out with a torn ACL.
The Jets, who were looking for a shot in the arm when they traded for Davante Adams a couple of weeks ago, have lost five straight games after a 2-1 start and find themselves at the bottom of the AFC East. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich is looking for answers after a 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots, who picked up just their second win of the season in that game. Adams has yet to make a major impact with the Jets, with seven catches for 84 yards, and his third week reunited with Aaron Rodgers could be another tough night at the office with Houston boasting the No. 3 ranked pass defense in the NFL.

TOUCHDOWN, Texans
Following a 14-yard pass from C.J. Stroud to Tank Dell that gave Houston 1st-and-goal from the 3-yard line, Joe Mixon runs it in for the score and a 7–0 lead.
After review, officials say Malachi Corley did indeed drop the ball before he crossed the goal line. The ball rolled through the back of the end zone, making it a touchback for the Texans.
This is a play we seem to see every week now, more in college football than the NFL.

Facemask penalty on Texans
On 1st-and-10 from the Houston 34, the Texans' Folorunso Fatukasi is called for a facemask penalty while tackling Breece Hall. That puts the Jets inside the red zone as the first quarter ends.
Referee thought Sam Darnold decided to just twist his own head off. No facemask. Just Darnold trying to go full Exorcist out there. Yikes. pic.twitter.com/ba7EDjodAQ
Kirk Herbstreit brings up the facemask penalty that wasn't called on the Rams' Bryce Young at the end of last week's TNF game versus the Vikings. Sam Darnold was probably yelling at his TV too.

The Jets' defense put the Texans in a 4th-and-21 and Houston punted. But Irvin Charles is called for roughing the kicker after running into Texans punter Tommy Townsend.

Haason Reddick makes his presence known
Facing pressure from Haason Reddick, C.J. Stroud throws an incomplete pass on 3rd-and-4 from the Houston 43-yard line.
Reddick couldn't bring down Stroud on third down, but disrupted the play enough to force the incomplete and force the Texans to punt. And we're about to find out if Cayenne Pepper Rodgers is really as mobile as he claimed to be.
Stroud is overcoming a slacking run game and poor offensive line play to keep the Texans humming. And could LSU's Garrett Nussmeier be QB1 in the 2025 NFL Draft?
