The Canyon of Heroes in New York City played host for the first time on Thursday to a parade for the New York Liberty, who captured their first WNBA championship in a five-game series win over the Minnesota Lynx.
The parade was a rousing success. Jonquel Jones, who was named the series MVP, got an entire float to herself. After averaging 17.8 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game on 56% shooting from the floor in the Finals, she absolutely deserved it.
The parade ended at City Hall, where both Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul were loudly booed by the crowd before team owner Clara Wu Tsai, head coach Sandy Brondello, and Liberty players spoke.
The celebration will continue Thursday night with a fan event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn at 7 p.m. ET.
