Live From The Locker Room: Ovechkin Having Fun In Pursuit Of Gretzky, Strome On 200 Assists, Thompson's Clutch Play
WASHINGTON — Alex Ovechkin is on a roll right now, and so are his Washington Capitals.
Ovechkin scored the game-winner for Washington in a 3-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday for the team's seventh consecutive win on home ice to open the season.
The 39-year-old's goal marked the 861st of his career, putting him just 34 behind Wayne Gretzky for the all-time scoring record.
"I’m always have fun," Ovechkin said of his pursuit of No. 99. "How I said, when you winning games, when you producing opportunities to have a chance to score goals, it’s always fun to play. Right now we have connection with (Aliaksei Protas) and (Dylan Strome), hopefully gonna continue to play like that."
Strome also picked up his 200th career NHL assist, and Aliaksei Protas and Connor McMichael also scored to keep their hot streaks alive.
Here's what they had to say after the win and thoughts from Logan Thompson, who remains undefeated after making 33 saves on 35 shots (.943 save percentage).
