Linus Videll scores ridiculous goal for Chinese KHL playoff team

The Kunlun Red Star is the KHL’s first franchise in China and, as luck would have it, they qualified for the Gagarin Cup playoffs in their inaugural season.

(See, Vegas Golden Knights? It can be done.)

They’re facing Gagarin Cup champions Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the opening round of the KHL playoffs. It’s obviously a big stage and a big moment for the franchise. And Linus Videll performed like it in a game on Sunday, with an amazing coast-to-coast goal:

With his team on the power play, Videll took the puck in his own end. He moved past Denis Kazionov in the neutral zone. We’re not entirely sure what the hell Viktro Antipin was doing as the next defender – maybe trying to turn his stick into a tollgate to impede Videll? But i failed.

He split the remaining defense with little resistance, and here’s where Videll does some really impressive work: He flipped the puck ahead to himself, and then smacked it out of the air through the Metallurg goalie’s five-hole for the goal.

Videll was selected by the Colorado Avalanche at No. 204 overall in 2003 but necer played in the NHL. Now 31, he’s in his sixth season in the KHL.
