Lincoln City are "hurting" after crashing out of their second cup competition in four days with another goal-shy display, says midfielder Jack Moylan.

The Imps were beaten 1-0 by fellow League One side Bolton Wanderers in the last 16 of the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, having been knocked out of the FA Cup by another third-tier rival, Birmingham City, on Saturday.

That defeat by Blues had at least produced a goal for the Imps, the only one they have scored in their past six matches - but even that was a 90th-minute penalty.

"I'd be the first to stand up and say I haven't been good enough in front of goal," Moylan told BBC Radio Lincolnshire when asked about the side's struggles in attack.

"I've had chances in the last three games and not taken them, so stick or abuse or any criticism that comes my way, I'll take that no problem.

"But as a team we are trying, we are going forward and trying to get goals."

Against Bolton that was evident, with Lincoln having 17 attempts to the Trotters' five.

But only two of the Imps' efforts troubled the goalkeeper, while Bolton scored from their solitary shot on target.

"On other nights you could get three or four there, and it was the same last week," Moylan said. "It's inches, it's moments and it's about having personality and we have just been lacking the past few games.

"We are hurting and we are trying our best and we are trying to put this right."

The two cup exits mean Lincoln have managed just one win from eight games across all competitions since mid-December, a run that leaves them 12th in the table.

Lincoln return to League One action with a trip to Northampton on Saturday and Moylan says they are "desperate for points and wins".

"We'll stand up, no one is shying away from it - we know we haven't been good enough and we are not deflecting," he added.

"We are footballers, we are paid to do this and should be doing better and we know that.

"No-one is having a laugh, it's not a craic - we are all devastated and we are doing our best and yeah, probably, confidence is low but you can't dwell and feel sorry for yourself because we have another game in three days and we have to put it right."
