Game of the week: Paris Saint-Germain v Stade Rennais, Friday 20:00 (UK)

PSG once again failed to secure a result against their bogey team, Stade de Reims. Luis Enrique’s side have now drawn four of their last five games against Les Stadistes. In their latest draw, Les Parisiens looked toothless for long periods and it was the kind of performance that will call into question their decision not to recruit a No.9 this summer, especially following the injury that Gonçalo Ramos suffered on the opening day of the season. Marco Asensio may also be absent this weekend, which should offer Randal Kolo Muani the chance to shine. Whilst he rarely spurs his opportunities at international level, that has not always been the case for PSG. But with Bradley Barcola’s levels dropping slightly and with Ousmane Dembélé’s finishing sporadic, Kolo Muani will have to step up, at least in the short-term, beginning against Rennes.

There isn’t too much room for optimism for Rennes. Many of the issues on show last season continue to hamper Julien Stéphan’s side and their inability to see out their win against Lens evidences a lack of character too. That opening-day hammering of Lyon already feels like a long time ago. But with PSG not in their finest period of form, they may get a scent of opportunity.
