Marseille have reportedly made a ‘substantial’ offer for Mason Greenwood to challenge potential suitors in Italy.

Greenwood’s future has been a topic of conversation for months, but the conclusion of his loan spell at Getafe means United need to find a buyer willing to match our asking price for the 22-year-old.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Marseille are confident of striking a deal for Greenwood.

The report states that the Ligue 1 outfit have presented a higher bid than Lazio’s (around €20 million) and now have great confidence that a deal will materialise.

United are believed to be demanding approximately €35m for Greenwood’s signature, yet Lazio appear reluctant to pay over €20m with add-ons.

It remains to be seen how much Marseille have offered for Greenwood.

Marseille won’t be playing European football next season, which may be an issue if Greenwood receives adequate offers from elsewhere.

They have recently appointed Roberto de Zerbi as their manager, which should lift expectations ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Reports in Italy this week suggested Greenwood had already turned down an approach from Marseille, with his preference being a move to Lazio.

It remains to be seen if any of the Spanish clubs will make a serious offer for Greenwood.

The only certainty is that Greenwood doesn’t have a future at United.
