Lightning Made Spectacular Move Trading For Star

The Tampa Bay Lightning made an array of moves this off-season. Among the most notable was the Atlantic Division club re-acquiring defenseman Ryan McDonagh from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2024 seventh-round pick and a 2025 second-round pick.

There was plenty of excitement when it was announced that the Lightning acquired McDonagh. This is because he was magnificent during his initial six-year stint as a Bolt and played a notable role in their back-to-back Stanley Cup championships. In addition, the Lightning missed his dependability on their blueline during the two seasons he was in Nashville.

So far, it is fair to say that bringing back McDonagh has been a spectacular move for the Lightning. The 35-year-old has again provided more stability to the club's defensive group, which is one reason why they have a strong 20-13-2 record this season.

McDonagh has appeared in 35 games this season with the Lightning, posting one goal, 10 points, and 70 blocks. He also has a team-best plus-21 rating, indicating how solid he has been defensively.

It will be very interesting to see how McDonagh builds on his strong season with the Lightning from here. Right now, it is hard to complain about what he has provided.
