With the Lightning being in a good place in the standings, the expectation is that they will look to add at the deadline. One specific area they could look to improve is their defense, and they are now being connected to one of the top blueliner trade candidates in the NHL.

According to The Fourth Period, the Lightning are one of the teams currently linked to Calgary Flames star defenseman Rasmus Andersson.

If the Lightning make a big push for Andersson, it would be easy to understand why. They need an impactful right-shot defenseman, and Andersson would give them just that for their top pairing. This is because he provides offense from the point, is solid defensively, and works on both special-team units.

Andersson would also be more than a rental for the Bolts if acquired, as he is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season, carrying a $4.55 million. With this, the Flames do not need to necessarily rush a move centering around the star defenseman, but the Lightning should still be inquiring about him.
