The Tampa Bay Lightning would benefit by adding to their defensive depth, especially when noting that blueliner J.J. Moser is dealing with a long-term injury.

On Sunday (Jan. 12), the Vancouver Canucks placed defenseman Erik Brannstrom on waivers. He could be an interesting player for the Lightning to bring in for their blueline.
Brannstrom, 25, has appeared in 28 games this season with the Canucks, posting three goals and eight points. This is after he set career highs with three goals, 17 assists, and 20 points in 76 games with the Ottawa Senators last season.
Brannstrom has shown that he can produce decent offense from the point in a limited role, so he could be a solid low-risk player for the Bolts to take a chance on. In addition, he offers terrific versatility, as the 2017 first-round pick can play on both the left and right side.
If the Lightning claimed Brannstrom, he would provide them with another option to use for their bottom pairing. He also has an incredibly affordable $900,000 cap hit, which adds to his appeal.
