Only days after the sacking of Patrick Vieira, RC Strasbourg Alsace have already found his successor, as L’Équipe revealed that Liam Rosenior is set to be named as the club’s new head coach.

Named last summer along with BlueCo’s takeover of Strasbourg, Patrick Vieira’s journey in Alsace failed to live up to expectations. If the club’s finished in a respectable 13th place in the standings, the season was draining on and off the pitch, with an unexpected fight for their survival all season long. On Thursday, an official statement revealed that both parties agreed to part ways on a mutual agreement.

According to L’Équipe, Rosenior ticks all the boxes of what BlueCo were looking in Vieira’s successor: a young, English coach with previous experience dealing with young players. The 40-year-old head coach was nominated for the Championship manager of the season award, only to lose to Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna. Rosenior has already worked with young squads, having been an assistant manager for Brighton U23 for the 2018-19 season, his first experience after retiring from professional football. In November 2022, he enjoyed his maiden experience as a first-team head coach at Hull City FC, with his journey ending at the end of last season after missing a playoff spot by only three points.
