Liam Payne has marked the 10th anniversary of One Direction by sharing the text he sent to his dad on the day the group was formed.

Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan had entered The X Factor as solo contestants in 2010 before being grouped together by judge Simon Cowell.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday 23 July, Payne posted the screenshot of the message he sent on the "exact time" he became a member of One Direction, with the text sent at 8.09pm simply reading: "I'm in a boyband."

"What a journey… I had no idea what we were in for when I sent this text to my Dad ten years ago at this exact time the band was formed," the 26-year-old wrote.

"Thanks to everyone that’s supported us over the years and thanks to the boys for sharing this with me #10YearsOfOneDirection."

One Direction came third on the seventh series of the singing competition but went on to huge worldwide fame, with just some of their accolades being seven Brit Awards, seven American Music Awards and six Billboard Music Awards.

Malik departed in 2015 with the remaining four continuing with the group with their fifth studio album Made in the A.M. released later that year.

As of 2016, One Direction has been on indefinite hiatus with each member pursuing their own solo careers.

The group returned to social media on Wednesday as their social media channels shared an image that read "10 Years of One Direction" while referring their 2015 single History.

“Tomorrow!” the post said. “You and me got a whole lot of history. #10Yearsof1D.”

While millions would undoubtedly love to see the boys back together, a reunion any time soon doesn’t look likely according to Horan.
