Lewandowski talks Flick, Mbappe, Barcelona objectives – ‘I can score more goals than last year’

FC Barcelona are preparing for their annual pre-season tour in the USA, where they will have the opportunity to shake off the rust and get into the groove by taking on top European teams.

One player who will be eagerly watched is Robert Lewandowski. The Polish talisman will once again be under the guidance of Hansi Flick, who previously elevated him to great heights at Bayern Munich.

Having touched down in the United States, Lewandowski answered some of the media’s burning questions.

On facing off against Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe’s arrival at Real Madrid has generated significant buzz and poses a considerable threat to Barcelona, given his immense talent.

When asked to comment on his signing with the Merengues, Lewandowski replied that his play style contrasts with Mbappe’s and that the Frenchman plays in a different position.

“I’m not sure that Mbappé is a striker like me. He plays in a different position and has a different style of football. For us it is a new motivation, a new season,” he said (h/t COPE).

High ambitions

Despite concluding last season on a positive note, Lewandowski endured a rough patch in the first half of the season and could not defend his Pichichi trophy.

However, the veteran striker affirms that he is optimistic about the upcoming campaign and looks forward to scoring more goals. “I am sure that for me, this season, I can score more goals than last year,” he said.

Moreover, Lewandowski claimed that with the newly appointed Flick, they will work hard, understand the new direction, and aim to prepare well for the upcoming season.

“We are with a new coach. I am sure that with Flick we will work very hard. With the new idea, with the new direction… We have time to understand the line we want to follow. As always, before a new season we want to prepare well,” he stated.

“Barça always wants to win and the players always have titles in their heads, but we are focused on preparing for the season well,” he concluded.
