Arsenal have lost the Premier League title to Manchester City in each of the last two seasons, but they plan to go one better next season.

The Gunners lost the title to Man City by two points last term and came five points short in 2022-23.

Man City won the title with 89 points two seasons ago, but that tally was only good enough for second place last season.

“I told you anything less than 90 – I didn’t believe it would deliver that,” Arteta replied when asked by ESPN how many points Arsenal needed to win the league.

“Let’s start with one hundred and fourteen (the maximum available) and see what we get. You know that the margins are really, really small and tight and the competition is going to be even harder than the previous season.

“You go game-by-game, earn the right to win every game, that’s all we can think of, and try to improve our players. And make them believe they can do it because now they are good enough to do it.”

Man City collected the most points (100) in a Premier League season in 2017-18, while 75 points were enough for Manchester United to land the title in 1996-97.

Arsenal want to win all 38 league games next term, and while that has never been done before, it can never be ruled out despite how difficult it looks.

They went unbeaten in 2003-04, picking up 90 points courtesy of 26 wins and 12 draws.

No team has won more than 32 league games in a single campaign, and Arsenal will have to be on top of their game in every fixture to outdo the record set by Man City (2017-18 & 2018-19) and Liverpool (2019-20).

The Gunners have a squad capable of winning the Premier League but must strengthen if they want to win all 38 league games next season.

That requires an unprecedented squad depth, and every department will need to be bolstered with the right player and quality during the ongoing summer transfer window.

Arsenal have Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori on their radar and are also looking to add an attacker and midfielder to their ranks.

They will fancy their chances of winning the title next season, but it will not come easily as Man City will be standing in their way.
