Leon Draisaitl Scores Baffling Goal On Future Hall-Of-Famer

EDMONTON -- Exactly how they drew it up.

The Edmonton Oilers are playing against the Minnesota Wild tonight in their 21st game of the season.

The newest addition, Kasperi Kapanen, is making his debut with the team. He's skating on a line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jeff Skinner. The recently called-up Drake Caggiula slots into the fourth lineup with Corey Perry and Derek Ryan.

On the other end of the ice, Marc-Andre Fleury is making his 1000th career start. Unfortunately for the veteran netminder, it wasn't the start he wanted.

Leon Draisaitl banked the puck off of the boards while at his blueline. The puck went in between the feet of Vasily Podkolzin and careened to the net. Fleury went to play the puck and completely missed.

That's probably not how Fleury wanted to start his milestone game.

The sure-fire hall-of-famer has a lifetime record of 564-330-95, a career 2.60 goals against average (GAA), a .912 save percentage (SV%), and 75 shutouts.

He ranks second among goaltenders in wins and will move into third in total games played, behind only Roberto Luongo and Martin Brodeur.

This season, he's spent more time keeping the bench warm than usual. Tonight is only his fifth start this season. Fleury entered tonight with a 3-0-1 record, a 2.70 GAA, and a .904 SV%.

Draisaitl has 15 goals this season, which has him tied with Alex Ovechkin for the league lead.
