Yahoo Sports Leon Draisaitl To The Rangers Hopes Crushed With Historic Contract
The Edmonton Oilers and Leon Draisaitl have agreed on a record eight-year, $112 million contract.

Draisaitl now becomes the highest paid player in NHL history as he will earn $14 million per year.
Prior to signing this contract, rumors swirled on Draisaitl’s future with the Oilers and if he would be traded or leave at season’s end in 2025.
An intriguing destination for Draisaitl was the New York Rangers given their big market and competitive roster.
At the start of the offseason, Chris Drury said he was looking to clear cap space, bringing some speculation on a possible big move that could come in the future.
Ultimately the Rangers had a quiet summer, making a couple of minor moves including the trade for Reilly Smith and signing of Sam Carrick.
Now with Draisaitl locked up long term in Edmonton, the hopes of his arrival to The Big Apple have been shattered.
The Rangers enter the season with practically an identical roster to the one they had last year during their run to the Eastern Conference Final.
With the Rangers staying out of the limelight this offseason, all eyes will be on Chris Drury to see what he does next summer.
