Leon Draisaitl Makes Edmonton Oilers History

EDMONTON -- I hear that Leon Draisaitl is a good hockey player.

The Edmonton Oilers leading scorer added another tally to his goal total tonight against the New York Islanders. The German forward opened the game's scoring, putting the puck past Ilya Sorokin from his typical powerplay post.

Draisaitl recorded his 11th goal 36 seconds into the middle frame of tonight's game. Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard recorded the assists.

With his latest goal, he moves into a five-way tie for second place in the NHL in goals. Nikita Kucherov, Sam Reinhart, Tage Thompson, and William Nylander all have 11 goals.

While tonight's goal was only his second on the powerplay this year, it puts him into rarified air. Draisaitl has become the third player in Oilers history to record 300 career powerplay points.

The only two Oilers with more powerplay points in their career? Wayne Gretzky and McDavid. Gretzky has 439 powerplay points as an Oiler, while McDavid now has 337.

Draisaitl already has the lead in powerplay goals with 148. He's obviously no stranger to scoring goals and is back to his old goal-scoring ways this season after tallying 41 last year.
