Lengthy Suspension Given To Former Sharks Prospect

Former San Jose Sharks tough guy prospect Alex Gallant received a lengthy suspension while playing for the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL.

Gallant played 56 games for the San Jose Barracuda from 2015 to 2016. He was never known as an offensive player; his primary role was as the team's enforcer. In his 56 career games, Gallant racked up a whopping 248 penalty minutes.

In his third season with the Calgary Flames minor league affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, Gallant is still doing his thing, but this time, not legally. After one of his teammates was hit, the forward left the bench to start a fight.

Gallant was suspended for six games under AHL Rule 70.10 after leaving the players' bench to start an altercation.

During the 15-16 regular season, Gallant got into 15 fights while playing for the Barracuda. He was slightly more disciplined the following season, only recording nine fights. One of the fights during the 16-17 regular season was against current Barracuda forward Scott Sabourin.

In October 2023, Gallant fought former Sharks forward Jeff Viel in an epic old-school bout.
