Leeds' Sivo to miss whole 2025 season with ACL injury

Leeds Rhinos winger Maika Sivo will miss the entire 2025 Super League season after sustaining a serious knee injury in a pre-season friendly.

The 31-year-old damaged his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the 22-4 win against Wigan Warriors in Ash Handley's testimonial game on Sunday.

The Fiji international will now miss the upcoming campaign before even making his competitive debut for the club, having joined on a three-year deal from NRL side Parramatta Eels in October.

"Our first thoughts are with Maika and we will all get round him and give him and his family our support," head coach Brad Arthur said.

"Our medical team will make sure he has the best possible treatment to come back from the injury as soon as possible.

"Maika is a strong character and I am sure he will throw himself into his recovery to get back to his best."

Sivo's arrival at Headingley reunited him with Arthur, who was in charge of Sydney club Parramatta for 10 years.

His injury gives the Rhinos a headache with just over two weeks remaining until the start of the season.

"In terms of our squad, we will need to review the full situation and look at all our options," sporting director Ian Blease added.

"We have some outstanding young players who could well now get the opportunity to grab their chance, and I will be discussing all our options with the club, Brad and the coaching staff in the coming weeks ahead of the season kicking off."
