Leafs fan Justin Bieber viciously booed for making fun of Canadiens in Montreal

It is no secret that Justin Bieber is a massive fan of his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs, so when he played his show in Montreal, he had to talk about it in the rival city.

In between songs during his concert on Tuesday night at the Bell Centre – home of the Leafs’ arch-rival, the Montreal Canadiens – Bieber took a moment to reflect on his favourite team’s season and how well they are doing.

“How about those Leafs though, huh?” Bieber said among a sea of heckles and boos. “Auston Matthews is really doing some work here in Montreal.”

The pop star went even further and took a dig at the fact that the two teams virtually sit on opposite sides of the divisional standings currently. “How’s that playoff spot looking for you guys this year?”

Montreal was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs just a couple of days before Bieber’s show, so the wound was both fresh and fairly old since the Canadiens were never truly going to reach the playoffs and have been one of the worst teams in the NHL this season. At least Habs fans can hold a couple of last year's accomplishments over Toronto's heads, namely reaching the Stanley Cup Final and beating the Leafs in the first round to do so.

Not to mention, the two rivals faced one another just the Saturday before the concert and Montreal walked away with a surprising 4-2 victory. Maybe Bieber missed that one.

The Leafs took full advantage of Bieber’s fandom earlier this year. Instead of simply cheering on his team from the press box, Bieber's fashion line “Drew House” collaborated with the team for a new, reversible jersey for a game this month.

There is no doubt that Bieber is eager to represent the Leafs hard and even in enemy territory. But maybe have your team win a playoff round more recently than 2004 before you start gloating to a fan base that holds the honour of earning the most Stanley Cups?

Good for him, though.
