Lazio are reportedly monitoring the progress of young Rapid Vienna star Isak Jansson who has been impressive in his maiden campaign in Austria.

The Background

The Biancocelesti have already revitalized their ageing squad last summer by offloading several veterans and replacing them with younger profiles, and this appears to be the way forward for the club. While the main focus is currently on a new midfielder, the management is also keeping an eye on other departments in case enticing opportunities were to present themselves.

Lazio Set Sights on Isak Jansson

According to the Swedish portal Expressen (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Aquile are interested in the services of Jansson who had also attracted the attention of Fiorentina in previous months. The Sweden U21 starlet started his career at Skene IF and then had experiences at Kalmar and Cartagena in Spain, before being poached by Rapid Vienna last year.

Impressive First Season in Vienna

The 22-year-old joined the Austrian giants in the summer and has been one of the revelations at the club. Although an injury limited his playing time during the first half of the season, he still managed to register five goals and four assists in 15 appearances in all competitions. The young player primarily plays on the right wing, but he’s been mostly deployed as an inverted left winger this term.

The Timing

While Jansson could be one of the names on Angelo Fabiani’s shortlist for next summer, the source wonders if the Lazio sporting director will try to anticipate the competition by launching an early onslaught this month.
