Lazio confirm agreement with Arsenal for Nuno Tavares and ongoing Greenwood talks

Portuguese full-back Nuno Tavares is on the verge of joining Lazio from Arsenal as the Biancocelesti confirm an agreement with the Gunners, while talks for Mason Greenwood with Manchester United are ongoing.

Lazio and Arsenal have reached an agreement over Nuno Tavares’ move to the Stadio Olimpico, the Biancocelesti director Angelo Mariano Fabiani confirmed at a press conference on Wednesday.

“Lazio are strongly interested, and an agreement between the clubs was reached yesterday,” Fabiani said, as quoted by LaLazioSiamoNoi.

“After that, we must find an agreement with the player and his agents. I am more than confident. For superstitious reasons, I won’t say he’s already a Lazio player, but there are high chances.”

Nuno Tavares returned to Arsenal after a one-year loan at Nottingham Forest, where he made 12 appearances across all competitions in 2023-24.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Lazio and Arsenal have shaken hands on a loan deal with an obligation to buy for €7m-8m.

Fabiani also provided the latest updates on Greenwood after President Claudio Lotito had said on Monday that Lazio were ready to sign a player who was “ten times better” than the Manchester United winger.

“We were already in talks last year and we are still in contact with Manchester United,” said Fabiani.

“There are tricky moves [from other clubs]. The fox eats the devil’s advice, and I am certainly not the devil.”

Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille have sent an opening bid for Greenwood, but the French club’s fans and even Major have criticised the Ligue 1 side for his potential signing.
