People close to Wesley Fofana expect the Frenchman to play again in a much shorter period of time than first expected according to reports.

Fofana came off in the 3-0 win against Aston Villa in December and Enzo Maresca initially thought he might be out for five weeks with the hamstring injury he picked up.

However, before the Crystal Palace game Maresca provided an update where he said he thought Fofana could be ruled out for the rest of the season.

Fofana to return sooner than expected

Fofana has been plagued by injury issues since joining Chelsea in the summer of 2022 in deal worth an initial £70m from Leicester City.

He missed the entire of last season with an ACL injury and he’s already missed the last seven Premier League games, which is a real shame given he was in good form and starting to form an exciting partnership with Levi Colwill.

However, there seems to be some confusion surrounding the timeline of Fofana’s return to action with the Frenchman denying Maresca’s claims he could miss the rest of the season.

Chelsea’s medical staff were thought to be of the opinion that Fofana would undergo surgery, but it appears the defender is opting against that.

Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has now reported that those close to Fofana expect to see him back playing in a much shorter time frame than first expected.

It’s a strange situation to have manager and player at odds over the severity of an injury and it’s a situation that needs clarifying.
