Latest On Capitals' Jersey Plans As Retro Alternate Sweaters Appear To Be All But Confirmed For Upcoming Season
There was speculation last week that the Washington Capitals were bringing back their Reverse Retros for the upcoming season, and it appears that it is all but confirmed that D.C. will in fact have retro alternates this season.
Logan Thompson's goalie mask designer, Dave Fried, commented on an Instagram post by Goalie Gear Nerd that Thompson has two more masks coming: one for the team's home games, and a Retro mask for the team's "alternate" jerseys.
The Capitals retired their blue alternate jerseys featuring the "W" logo at the end of last season, so it appears that this would be a new jersey. It is Washington's 50th anniversary season, so it would make sense that the team would bring back a Retro look for its alternate. Whether that's the black Screamin' Eagle, though, remains to be seen.

However, signs do point to the return of that specific logo.
Last week on Instagram, an account titled "95takengive" posted the black T.J. Oshie Screamin' Eagle Reverse Retro jersey on sale with Fanatics Premium branding, the equivalent to Adidas' "authentic" line. The account is an Indonesian jersey re-seller, and as Icethetics says, the jerseys pictured appear to be legitimate.
That account has since been suspended, but not before the Fanatics-branded Reverse Retro was displayed.
Per Icethetics, Fanatics asked teams to hold off on entirely new designs as the company takes over for Adidas as the league's official jersey supplier, but Washington bringing back the 2022-23 design gets the team around that rule in order to bring in a new alternate jersey.
Washington opens its 50th anniversary season on Oct. 12 at home against the New Jersey Devils.
