Landon McCallum signs with Coachella Valley Firebirds
After a four-year career in the OHL, Landon MacCallum will take his first steps into professional hockey this upcoming season. Earlier today, the 2003-born forward signed a contract with the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the AHL.
MacCallum played 246 games in the OHL and scored a total of 49 goals while recording 104 assists for a total of 153 points.
He was relatively unproductive in his first two seasons in the OHL. However, during his last two seasons with Sudbury, McCallum scored 120 points in 132 games averaging nearly a point per game.
During last year's nine-game playoff run, McCallum played an important role for Sudbury. He scored three goals and added one assist. In a total of 13 career playoff games in the OHL McCallum has a total of six points maintaining his half-a-point per game average.
The 5-foot-11 forward will have the opportunity to play alongside Seattle Kraken prospects including fellow Sudbury teammate David Goyette.
The pair may also be joined in the future by former teammate Nathan Villeneuve who is a Seattle prospect. The Kraken drafted Villeneuve in the 2nd-round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
As an undrafted forward, McCallum will have to fight hard for his spot. However, hard work could result in a path to the NHL if McCallum plays his cards right.
