Lance Briggs says 2024 offseason was 'most delusional' he's seen Bears fans

Heading into the 2024 season, the Chicago Bears were injected with enthusiasm following the arrival of offensive playmakers D'Andre Swift, Keenan Allen, and rookies Rome Odunze, and top overall pick, quarterback Caleb Williams.

The hype around the team was so high that for the first time in franchise history the team was featured on HBO's "Hard Knocks." Little did everyone know that they'd make more franchise history later in the season by firing a head coach in the season for the first time ever.

The difference in pre-season hype and the reality of disaster in the season, has had many taking aim at what the Bears have ultimately become this year. Former legendary linebacker for the franchise Lance Briggs, was brutally honest about the failed expectations, and how he feels fans were delusional coming into the season.

"Bears, the city, the fans, this was the most delusional offseason I had seen. Everyone was drunk off of Caleb [Williams] and [Rome] Odunze," Briggs said. "In my head, in my Lee Corso voice, I [said] 'Not so fast, not so fast my friends.'"

It's a very harsh, yet honest and real take looking back at what many Bears fans expected for this season, with Williams leading the way in his rookie season. There has seemingly not been a complete game start to finish, on both sides of the football, once this year.

Hovering around a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, mixed with plenty of cap space, and the eventual hiring of the head coach, expectations should be exceedingly lowered going into next year.
