LaMichael James seems aware of potential trade

Remember when Darren Sproles was blindsided by the news that the Saints were trying to trade him? That's not the case with 49ers running back LaMichael James.

After the Sacramento Bee reported that James, a seldom-used running back that was taken in the second round of the 2012 NFL draft out of Oregon, was on the trading block, James took to twitter to let the world know he was aware of this.

"When old news become new news," James wrote.

The move makes sense for San Francisco. The franchise already has Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter on the roster, with Marcus Lattimore expected to compete for some carries in 2014. Lattimore tore his ACL during his 2012 season with the South Carolina Gamecocks and sat his rookie season out.

In two seasons with the 49ers, James has carried the ball just 39 times for 184 rushing yards.

James' lackluster start to his NFL career follows his spectacular days as a collegian. At Oregon, James rushed for 5,082 yards and 53 touchdowns in three seasons. In 2012, James tallied 1,805 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground for the Ducks.
