Lakers and Clippers’ Saturday Games Postponed Amid Ongoing Los Angeles Wildfires

After postponing Thursday’s matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Charlotte Hornets, the NBA has announced it will reschedule two more L.A.-set games originally set for Saturday amid ongoing wildfires in the area.

The Lakers vs. Spurs game, which was to take place at L.A.’s Crypto.com arena and televised on Spectrum SportsNet, and the Clippers vs. Hornets game, which was to be played at Inglewood’s Intuit Dome and televised on FDSSC and FDSSE, will now be played at a later date. Scheduling details have not yet been announced.

“The health and safety of our community and fans remains our highest priority,” the L.A. Clippers wrote in a statement posted to X late Friday night. The team confirmed that next week’s games against the Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets on Monday, Jan. 13 and Wednesday, Jan. 15 will take place as scheduled at the Intuit Dome.

“The Los Angeles community is in our hearts,” reads a statement posted to the Lakers’ X account early Saturday morning. “The Lakers look forward to getting back on the court soon, honoring LA’s first responders and recognizing the heartbreak endured across our beloved community.”

Both posts confirmed that tickets for the postponed games will be honored for the rescheduled dates.

The NBA games are a few of many L.A.-based events to be postponed or cancelled amid the rapidly spreading fires. The 30th annual Critics Choice Awards, which were to be held this Sunday, Jan. 12, are among the industry events to be delayed; they’ll now air Sunday, Jan. 26. (Get full details here.)

Elsewhere in the sports world, the National Hockey League similarly postponed Wednesday’s planned match-up between the Los Angeles Kings and Calgary Flames; a makeup date has not yet been confirmed. Meanwhile, the NFL’s wild card playoff game between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams is still currently scheduled for Monday, Jan. 13, but the event has been relocated to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
