As expected, Kylian Mbappé (25), one of the favourites to win this year’s Ballon d’Or, does feature on the 30-man shortlist, which also includes Arsenal’s William Saliba, who has been included for the first time.

Mbappé is yet to win the Ballon d’Or, and last year finished third behind eventual winner Lionel Messi, as well as Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. Despite another impressive domestic campaign with Paris Saint-Germain, which led to his move to Real Madrid, it may once again prove a tall order for the France captain to win the prestigious award, especially given his well-documented difficult Euro 2024 with Les Bleus.

Saliba, who was named in the Euro 2024 team of the tournament, has also made the list. The former AS Saint-Étienne, Olympique de Marseille, and OGC Nice centre-back has truly established himself as one of the top centre-backs in the Premier League with Arsenal.

However, there is no place on the shortlist for Antoine Griezmann, who did make the cut last year. That was despite another prolific season with Atlético Madrid, during which he netted 24 goals in 48 games.
