Kylian Mbappé plays without a mask against for France against Spain

After breaking his nose in France’s match against Austria at EURO 2024, their captain Kylian Mbappé (25) was expected to wear a mask for the rest of the tournament. However, in the competition’s semi-finals, the Real Madrid forward did not require any protective equipment as he led Les Bleus out against Spain.

When Mbappé suffered a broken nose after contesting a ball with Lens defender Kevin Danso, it was feared that the 25-year-old would be unable to play again in the tournament. These initial fears were soon put to rest as the forward only missed one match against the Netherlands and was declared fit to play in the round of 16 against Poland.

The mask has caused Mbappé some discomfort during the competition, possibly affecting his performances. Describing what it is like to play in the mask, the former PSG attacker described it as ‘an absolute horror’. Before the semi-finals, the Monaco academy graduate was only involved in one goal for Les Bleus – coming from the penalty spot against Poland.
