Kylian Mbappé equalled a Lionel Messi benchmark in Real Madrid’s latest win
Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé late on Saturday secured for himself a head-turning recent piece of La Liga history.
As much comes owing to his exploits in Real’s meeting with Espanyol.
Carlo Ancelott’s troops are of course fresh off making it four wins from four last night, courtesy of a 4-1 comeback victory over Espanyol.
The aforementioned Mbappé endured something of a frustrating evening for the most part, only for youngster Endrick to win a last-gasp penalty which the France international happily stepped up to convert.
And, in the process, Mbappé equalled a remarkable La Liga benchmark.
As revealed by statisticians StatMuse, since 2020, only two players have managed to rack up nine shots and seven chances created in a single La Liga fixture.
The first was Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, against Levante.
The 2nd? Mbappé, on Saturday, against Espanyol.
The summer arrival may not yet be lighting up Spanish football, but, evidently, as much does not come owing to a lack of trying…
