Manchester City captain Kyle Walker has hit back at a fan account on social media platform X for labelling the 34-year-old “a disgrace”.

The veteran defender, who is widely viewed by many as being the greatest ever Premier League right-back, made the decision last week to inform Manchester City of his desire to explore other opportunities and options away from English football.

That stance has largely come in light of a run of difficult performances so far this season in which many have held the belief that Walker simply cannot handle the very top-level of the English game at this stage of his career.

Following the emergence of the news through Pep Guardiola in a media conference, Walker has attracted interest from both Milan clubs, while there is a feeling that the player is not keen on a move to Saudi Arabia, should Middle-East clubs put forward a proposal.

Kyle Walker has also now missed both of Manchester City’s last two matches across competitions, but remains a part of the squad in training despite holding what has been reported as a ‘leaving party’ over the course of the weekend.

In light of Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against Brentford in west London on Tuesday night, one fan account took to X to vent their frustration and anger at recent developments surrounding the club’s captain, Kyle Walker.

“Kyle Walker’s behavior is completely unacceptable,” the account wrote. The user continued, “As club captain, failing to show up for matches is a disgrace.

“If you want to leave, do it with respect – this is not the way. Your lack of commitment has been a major factor in this disappointing campaign.”

Since then, Walker has taken to the platform to hit back and formulate his response, insisting that the account needs to ‘check their sources’ when it comes to information put out by sections of the media concerning his Manchester City activity in recent weeks.

“Failed to turn up? I can’t be at Brentford and training at the same time,” Walker responded to the account on Wednesday. “You may need to check your sources,” he closed.

For now, Kyle Walker has yet to address the revelation issued by his manager over his future at the club, and it remains to be seen whether AC Milan or another potential suitors provides a compelling proposal to both the player and his current club.

Walker remains contracted until the summer of 2026, and as such a club would have to put forward a transfer fee for the ageing defender. However, there is a belief in some quarters that out of respect for his achievements, Manchester City may be willing to let him leave for free.
