Kyle Dubas' Calder Cup championship hoist is one to behold

No, Kyle Dubas hadn’t forgotten about his Toronto Marlies.

Quite the contrary, actually, as the newly-appointed Maple Leafs general manager went absolutely bonkers celebrating a most-successful end to his four-year reign at the helm of Toronto’s AHL affiliate with Thursday’s Calder Cup championship.

The Marlies took down the Texas Stars in Game 7 to capture the city’s first men’s professional hockey ‘ship since the Maple Leafs won it all in ’67.

The dude was fired up, and for good reason. Almost every player on the current roster has some connection to Dubas, and several, including blueliner Travis Dermott and playoff MVP Andreas Johnsson, are likely to find themselves up with Dubas and the big club next season.

Dubas took over the role of Marlies GM from Dave Poulin after being hired into the Maple Leafs front office in July of 2014, and since turned the club into a perennial contender and one of the top development programs in the world.

The 31-year-old was named Lou Lamoriello’s replacement and the 17th general manager in Maple Leafs franchise history last month.
