KU coach Lance Leipold erupts after Arizona State player lights up QB Jalon Daniels
Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels threw a go-ahead touchdown pass to Quentin Skinner late in the fourth quarter against Arizona State. But that drive will almost certainly be remembered for a different play the QB was involved in during an eventual 35-31 KU loss.
It was KU’s (1-5, 0-3 Big 12) fifth straight loss.
Facing a third-and-7, Daniels dropped back to pass when an Arizona State player jumped across the line early, drawing a flag for offside. Daniels scrambled to his left and was lit up by another Arizona State player, Clayton Smith, who was flagged for unnecessary roughness.
Kansas coach Lance Leipold erupted on the sideline and ran onto the field, screaming to the officials. KU coaches eventually held him back.

Moments later, as the Jayhawks lined up for their next play, the hit went under review for targeting, and was deemed to be so, leading to an ejection for Smith. He will miss the first half of Arizona State’s next game.
It was the second targeting call against ASU, as Keyshaun Elliott was ejected in the first half.
The hit by Smith seemed to revitalize KU’s offense. Not only did Kansas earn 15 yards from the penalty, but within four plays, KU scored a touchdown.
Kansas trailed 28-24 at the time of the ejection and would go up 31-28 on Daniels’ 34-yard touchdown pass to Skinner. However, Arizona State answered with a touchdown with 16 seconds left.
With one last chance, Daniels’ Hail Mary pass attempt reached the end zone but was batted down to end the game. He finished the game with three touchdowns, including two passing scores.
The Jayhawks now enter their off week. Kansas will play Houston at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19
