Kraken Give Up Three Unanswered Goals To Lose 5-4 To The Oilers

The Seattle Kraken once had a two-goal lead in the second period but gave up three unanswered goals to the Edmonton Oilers to suffer their third loss of the pre-season.

The Oilers fired 36 shots at Philipp Grubauer, but he was only able to turn away 31 of them. Another tough statistical net for the German netminder as he finished with a .861SV%.

The Kraken's penalty kill was able to hold off the Leon Draisaitl-less Oilers power play but the Kraken finished just one 1/5 on the power play. The Kraken also struggled in the faceoff dot winning just 38.6% of their draws.

The Oilers got the scoring started with a goal by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Zach Hyman was able to hit an in-stride Connor McDavid who found Nugent-Hopkins trailing in the slot. The Kraken answered with back-to-back goals by Jacob Melanson and Eduard Sale. Melanson was able to poke home a loose puck after great work by Ben Meyers to force a turnover.

Sale scored his first of the pre-season after he one-timed a neat saucer pass by Ryan Winterton. Brandon Biro picked up assists on both Kraken goals. Nolan Philp was able to answer for the Oilers to tie the game at two before the end of the first period.

John Hayden deflected a spin-o-rama pass for Brandon Tanev to regain the lead for the Kraken. Meyers added to the lead with a pin-point release on a two-on-one. Both Meyers and Melanson picked up their second points of the game on the goal. Mattias Ekholm brought the Oilers back within one with less than two minutes remaining in the second period.

Goals from Vasily Podkolzin and Raphael Lavoie gave the Oilers a 5-4 lead. Despite the Kraken throwing 12 shots at the Oilers in the third period, they were unable to tie the game.

The Kraken will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
