The Seattle Kraken have reassigned Jani Nyman, Niklas Kokko and Lleyton Roed to the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
The #SeaKraken have reassigned the following players to Coachella Valley:
Niklas Kokko
Jani Nyman
Lleyton Roed— Seattle Kraken PR (@SeattleKrakenPR) September 28, 2024
Nyman is entering his first full season in the AHL after a strong Liiga campaign. With Ilves, the 20-year-old scored 26 goals and 43 points in 47 games. He had a stellar World Juniors and has built up a lot of anticipation. The 6'4 winger was the 49th overall pick in the 2022 NHL draft and will have lofty expectations for the 2024-25 season. Nyman only got into one pre-season game but recorded three shots on goal in 13:42 of time on ice.

Kokko is another highly touted prospect who the Kraken have very high hopes for. He was great in the Liiga season and was dominant at the 2024 NHL Rookie Faceoff. He'll be sharing the net with a couple of other goaltenders but the 20-year-old's poise in the crease could make the transition to North American hockey quick and easy. Unfortunately for Kokko, he didn't get any pre-season action but was heavily involved during training camp.

Roed completed his NCAA career on a high note scoring over 30 points in both seasons at Bemidji State University. Like Nyman, he got into five games for the Firebirds at the end of the season and suited up for another five playoff games. He has a taste for the AHL and will try to use the brief experience he picked up to get off to a fast start. Roed was a stand-out performer during pre-season picking up an assist on Ryan Winterton's goal yesterday against the Canucks.
The Kraken have trimmed their roster significantly as they now hope to begin building chemistry in their last few pre-season games and head into the regular season as prepared as possible. The Firebirds will have another stacked roster that should compete for the Calder Cup.
