Will A New Kraken Player Lead The Team In Points?

Jared McCann has led the Seattle Kraken in points for each of the franchises' first three seasons but could that change in the 2024-25 season?

McCann was the 24th overall pick by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2014 NHL draft and was a highly touted prospect who struggled to produce a high level before joining the Kraken.

He had career highs of 14 goals, 21 assists and 35 points before setting new ones in his first season with the Kraken. In doing so he led the Kraken in points and did so for the following two seasons.

Matty Beniers had a fantastic rookie year, winning the Calder trophy and showing signs of becoming a future number-one centre. His sophomore year didn't go quite as he planned but he's poised for a bounce-back/breakout year. Beniers is the most obvious candidate to dethrone McCann but isn't the only challenger.

The two new offseason additions, Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour could be the next best challengers. Montour's career-high of 73 points is better than McCann's 70 despite him playing as a defenseman. His ability to run the power play and pick effective times to jump into the rush makes him so dangerous offensively.

Stephenson's carer-high is lower than McCann's but Stephenson eclipsed 60 points twice in his career and was playing on a team where he wasn't necessarily the main offensive option. With the Kraken, he'll have more opportunities to rack up points.

The dark-horse to be the Kraken's main offensive man would be Oliver Bjorkstrand, who finished just three points behind McCann during the 2023-24 season. If he builds a formidable partnership with Stephenson, he could produce his best offensive season to date.

The biggest takeaway is that fans should be excited that a healthy race and competition inside the Kraken's roster exists.
