Kraken Place Goaltender Philipp Grubauer On Waivers

The Seattle Kraken have placed goaltender Philipp Grubauer on waivers.

The 33-year-old netminder had another difficult outing last night, allowing five goals on 22 shots. He now has a 5-15-1 record with a .866 SV% and a 3.83 GAA. Both stats are the worst of his career.

The Kraken signed Grubauer to a six-year, $5.9M AAV contract to be their starting goaltender back in July 2021 and is now in year four of the contract. His star-studded performances from the Washington Capitals and the Colorado Avalanche failed to come along with him to Seattle and has now left GM Ron Francis and the Kraken organization with limited options.

His high cap hit and poor performances almost guarantee that he'll clear waivers and when he does, the German goaltender will join the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Grubauer has accumulated 105 games of AHL experience which came with the Hershey Bears. The last time Grubauer played an AHL game was in the 2014-15 season.

At the moment it's unknown what the plan is for Grubauer. How long he stays with the Firebirds and what happens if his struggling play continues in the AHL is undetermined.
