Kraken Front Office Open To Taking Calls On Multiple Players
The Seattle Kraken front office is reportedly open to taking calls on multiple players, according to The Fourth Period.
Multiple insiders around the NHL have reported that the Kraken are looking to possibly resign pending UFAs Yanni Gourde and Brandon Tanev. Still, they believe they will eventually be traded.
"Ron Francis is apparently open to a variety of different possibilities," said David Pagnotta. "Now, they are having some conversations to understand if there’s an opportunity to sign Tanev and/or Gourde to extensions, but these are two guys that are highly coveted from a number of teams. Gourde has a $5 million cap hit, Tanev has a $3.5 million cap hit. They bring different elements to kind of stabilize a mid-six to bottom-six for a contending team, so they're going to generate a lot of interest."

With the struggles the Kraken have been dealing with during the 2024-25 campaign, selling at the deadline is becoming increasingly more likely and wise. Outside of Tanev and Gourde, the Kraken have been open about discussing players with additional term on their contracts.
"But they have other pieces too, with another year left on their contracts – Oliver Bjorkstrand, Jaden Schwartz and Jamie Oleksiak on the backend. It sounds like Seattle – talking to other people around the league – they’re at least open to having those discussions for guys that are not on an expiring deal right now. So that’ll be an interesting way of kind of navigating the trade market for some contenders that wouldn’t mind adding somebody now for a run, but also have them on the roster next season, as well. So, we’ll keep tabs on that one."
Schwartz and Oleksiak have 16-team no-trade lists instilled in their contracts and Bjorkstrand has a 10-team no-trade list which could complicate things but if their desire is to win a Stanley Cup and a contender comes knocking, it wouldn't be all that surprising to see them agree to a move.

With the trade deadline still over a month away, it's unclear how serious these discussions are but as the deadline approaches, the Kraken's plan will be more transparent.
