Kraken Continue Winning Homestand As They Defeat Sabres 6-4
Seattle, WA - The Seattle Kraken hosted the Buffalo Sabres at Climate Pledge Arena on Monday afternoon, securing a 6-4 victory in a high-energy matinee. This marked the second meeting between the two teams this month, and the Kraken's second win over the Sabres since January 11, when they triumphed 6-2 in Buffalo.
Riding high off a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, Seattle carried that momentum into the first period against Buffalo. With the victory, the Kraken have now won three of their last four games.
John Hayden put the Kraken on the board in the opening period, scoring his first goal of the season with the Kraken, assisted by Mitchell Stephens and Ryker Evans, tying the game 1-1.
Evans then picked up his second assist of the night, setting up Chandler Stephensons' snap shot goal to give Seattle a 2-1 lead.
Matty Beniers opened up the second period for the Kraken with a power play goal after a beautiful pass from Chandler Stephenson and Vince Dunn.
The second period saw a series of penalties and a slowdown in Seattle's pace, which allowed the Sabres to rally and knot the game at 3-3. But the Kraken responded late with a powerful slapshot from the "Big Rig," Jamie Oleksiak, beating Sabres goalie Devon Levi to give Seattle a 4-3 advantage heading into the third.
The third period saw the Kraken shift to a more defensive mindset, as Joey Daccord stood tall, fending off multiple desperate attempts from the Sabres to either tie the game or take the lead in its final moments.
With 10 minutes remaining, Adam Larsson unleashed a thunderous slapshot past Sabres goalie Devon Levi, with assists from Jared McCann and Eeli Tolvanen, extending Seattle's lead to 5-3.
Buffalo's Alex Tuch struck late at 18:36, cutting Seattle’s lead to 5-4. The Sabres pulled Levi for the extra attacker, but Daccord was up to the task, standing firm under the added pressure. McCann then sealed the win, scoring an empty-net goal to secure his second point of the game and put the finishing touch on a well-earned victory for Seattle.
