Kraken Comeback In Second Period; Defeat Blue Jackets 5-2.

Seattle, WA – The Seattle Kraken hosted the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night for the first of two regular-season meetings, and their lone matchup at home. The two teams will meet again at Nationwide Arena on January 9, 2024.

The game started with a jolt for the Kraken, but it wasn’t the kind they hoped for. Columbus surged ahead early, capitalizing on the mistakes of Seattle’s defense and goalie Joey Daccord. At 13:46, Sean Kuraly put the Blue Jackets on the board, and less than a minute later, at 14:08, Zachary Aston-Reese added a second goal. With a relentless barrage of shots—18 to Seattle’s 6—the Blue Jackets dominated the opening period. The Kraken appeared stunned by the onslaught, prompting head coach Dan Bylsma to call an early timeout. The brief respite allowed Seattle to weather the storm, preventing further damage.

The second period was a different story. With renewed vigor, the Kraken flipped the script. They came out firing, unleashing a relentless wave of shots on Blue Jackets' goalie Elvis Merzlikins. The pressure paid off as Seattle found its rhythm, capitalizing with a series of goals that propelled them into a 4-2 lead. The Kraken scored 20 shots on goal, the most in a period for the team.

Second Period Highlights:

Tye Kartye with a backhand shot at 2:50, assisted by Andre Burakovsky and Yanni Gourde.

Brandon Tanev unassisted at 7:13.

Eeli Tolvanen with the power play goal second later at 7:23 assisted by Jorden Eberle and Jared McCann.

Will Borgen scored his first goal of the season with the wrist shot at 13:34 assisted by the former Blue Jacket Oliver Bjorkstrand and Jaden Schwartz.

Not much happened on either side in the third period. The Blue Jackets pulled Merzlikins in an effort to reduce the lead, but it backfired when Jared McCann scored the empty-net goal.

Your Three Stars of the Game were: Ty Kartye, Brandon Tanev and Will Borgen.
