Kraken Beat The Avalanche In A Commanding 5-1 Win To Begin The 2024 NHL Rookie Faceoff

The Seattle Kraken put on an offensive display as they beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-1 to begin their 2024 NHL Rookie Faceoff.

After it was announced that Shane Wright and Ryan Winterton would not be travelling with the team to Los Angeles, the expectations of the team and lineup may have changed but the result they were looking for didn't falter.

Logan Morrison centred David Goyette and Jagger Firkus on the top line followed by Eduard Sale, Carson Rehkopf and Jani Nyman. Nathan Villeneuve and Jacob Melanson skated on Andrei Loshko's wing with Ollie Josephson, Julius Miettinen and Clarke Caswell rounding out the fourth line.

Caden Price and Lucas Dragicevic skated together on the top pair followed by Tyson Jugnauth and Ville Ottavainen. Jakub Fibigr and Kaden Hammell played together on the third pair with Niklas Kokko in goal.

Berkly Catton, Lleyton Roed, Alexis Bernier and Ty Nelson were among the scratches for the Kraken.

Melanson opened the scoring on the power play before Morrison made it 2-0 for the Kraken. Fibigr scored the third goal of the second period to give the Kraken a resounding three-goal lead.

Kokko made multiple key saves in the second and third periods including a pair of breakaway saves. Loshko made it 4-0 for the Kraken before the Avalanche finally broke Kokko's shutout. Nyman found the empty net to ice the game for Kraken and start their tournament with a 5-1 win.

The Kraken will be back in action tomorrow against the Vegas Golden Knights who started their tournament with a over the Los Angeles Kings.
