Kobe Bryant tributes: Pistons wear Nos. 8, 24 jerseys; Luka Doncic honors victims of helicopter crash

A day after the tragic death of Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant, the NBA is carrying forward with its Monday slate of games.

Tributes to the NBA legend were the theme of the night, and the Detroit Pistons got things started before their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Pistons players took to their pregame huddle wearing black Bryant jerseys emblazoned with the Nos. 8 and No. 24 that Kobe wore throughout his NBA career.

Cavaliers forward Larry Nance Jr., who played with Bryant on the Lakers, was emotional after the Pistons took eight- and 24-second violations to start the game.

Luka honors victims of crash

Meanwhile, Luka Doncic, whose fearless game shows influences of the Lakers legend, had names of the victims of the helicopter crash that claimed Bryant’s life written on his Kobe sneakers before the Dallas Mavericks tipped off against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, was also among the nine victims who perished in the crash.

Monday’s tributes followed those from Sunday that happened as games were played in the immediate aftermath of the news of Bryant’s death. Teams that won their opening tips on Sunday let the 24-second shot clock expire in a nod to Bryant’s No. 24 jersey.

Teams playing Monday carried on that homage.

Timberwolves give nod to spot Kobe passed MJ

Timberwolves forward Andrew Wiggins simply placed the ball on the free throw line to allow the shot clock to run down in Minnesota’s game against the Sacramento Kings.

The placement of the ball was a nod to the spot where Bryant passed Michael Jordan on the all-time scoring list with a foul shot against the Timberwolves in 2014.

Meanwhile at Staples Center, where there was no game, fans still gathered in force to show their love for their fallen basketball hero.
