“You know what…” – Pundit tips surprise Arsenal & Man United transfer deal to be a success
Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy has admitted he could see Marcus Rashford being a success at Arsenal amid reports that he looks set to leave Manchester United.
The England international has had a pretty miserable last year or so, despite looking world class as recently as the 2022/23 season.
Rashford broke onto the scene as a real wonderkid at Man Utd, and he’s certainly had a pretty good career at Old Trafford overall, especially considering the club’s various issues and frequent change of managers.
Still, United now look ready to sell Rashford and Murphy has backed the 27-year-old to get back to his best if he joins a club like Arsenal, who dominate games more than MUFC.
Could Marcus Rashford transfer be a surprise hit for Arsenal?
It perhaps seems unlikely that United would sell a popular homegrown player like Rashford to a rival, but Mikel Arteta would surely take him as an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli if he could.
Murphy discussed the Rashford situation on talkSPORT and named the Gunners as an ideal possible destination for him.
“I think we’ve already seen the best of Marcus Rashford but he’s capable of getting to that level again.
“I think Ruben Amorim is capable of doing that. I think the scenario of him going is unrealistic, I think he will stay and Amorim will get more out of him.
“He had one world-class season, his numbers were superb. With the ability he’s got, I think he’s capable of more.
“He’s been at a club for a long time but the managerial situation has never been stable, there’s been a lot of change.
“If he was in a better team, a more successful team, under a more competent manager than some we’ve seen at United, we might have seen a different outcome.”
When asked about Arsenal, Murphy added: “You know what, you never know for sure but playing in a team that’s so settled and so confident and competent, there is a case that his end product would get much better, because Arsenal are really dominant in games.
“You could argue that Martinelli has been a bit hot and cold… There would be some people who would take Rashford over Martinelli.”
