Jurgen Klopp’s Decision on England Manager Role

No Future with England for Klopp

Jurgen Klopp, former Liverpool manager, has decisively ruled out the possibility of taking on the England manager role. Despite being considered a potential successor to Gareth Southgate, Klopp has made it clear that he will not be stepping into the vacant position.

Break From Football

After a remarkable nine-year tenure at Liverpool, where he secured nine trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League, Klopp has decided to take a break from football. He departed Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 season, seeking some time away from the pressures of the game. The German tactician confirmed that he is not interested in any club or international managerial positions for the foreseeable future.

Firm Stance On England Job

At the International Coaches’ Congress, Klopp addressed rumours linking him to the England job. He stated, “Nothing at all. Job-wise, nothing at all. No club, no country. Some people must not have heard that part.” He further emphasised the improbability of taking the role by saying, “That [taking the England job] would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if I said, ‘I’ll make an exception for you’.”

Klopp also reflected on his future, suggesting that while he might not return to coaching immediately, he’s not entirely ruling it out. “I will work at something. I’m too young to just play padel and only spend time with my grandchildren. Will it be coaching again? I would actually rule that out at the moment. We’ll see how things look in a few months. Right now, nothing is coming through.”

Liverpool and England’s Upcoming Fixtures

As Klopp steps away, Liverpool will begin their new chapter under Arne Slot, starting their 2024/25 Premier League campaign against newly-promoted Ipswich Town on 17 August. Pre-season friendlies against Arsenal, Manchester United, and Sevilla will serve as warm-ups for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, the England national team gears up for their Nations League matches in September, facing off against the Republic of Ireland and Finland. The search for Southgate’s replacement continues, with Klopp’s name officially off the list.
