Quarterback Kirk Cousins was the biggest names in free agency this offseason before signing a four-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. How much is his new team paying him in 2024 and beyond?

Cousins, 36, is a 13-year NFL veteran who has played for three teams throughout his career. After six solid seasons with the Minnesota Vikings – which included three Pro Bowl nods – Cousins hit free agency in the offseason. It was the first time the veteran had become a free agent since he parted ways with Washington in 2018, and the Falcons leapt at the chance to sign him.

In 2024, surrounded by a strong supporting cast on offense and supplemented with an excellent defense, Cousins is looking to lead Atlanta back into the postseason for the first time since 2017.

The Falcons' new quarterback signed a four-year, $180 million contract with the team on March 11 of this year. It included a $50 million signing bonus and $100 million guaranteed.

Cousins' contract's average annual value of $45 million puts him in a tie with the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes for the 12th highest-paid quarterback in the NFL this year by AAV.

Cousins will make $12.5 million base salary this year with an additional $12.5 million from his signing bonus on top of it. In total, the money the Falcons are paying their new quarterback counts as a $25 million cap hit in 2024.

This being the first year of his contract, Cousins' deal has a dead cap value of $90 million this season.

According to Spotrac, Cousins has made a total of $294,169,486 in contract money from three teams in his 13-year career.

After his rookie deal with Washington ended in 2015, he signed two consecutive franchise tags with the team before inking a three-year, $84 million deal with the Vikings in free agency in 2018. Cousins then signed a two-year, $66 million extension in 2020 – a year before his first contract ended – then signed a one-year, $35 million extension before hitting free agency again last offseason.

Cousins' Falcons contract is the biggest – by total value and AAV – of any in his career.
