On Sunday night, Spain will lock horns with England in the finals of the UEFA Euro 2024 in Berlin, Germany.

La Roja have been the best-performing team at the European Championships and are deservedly in the finals after seeing off two other tournament favourites, Germany and France, in the last two rounds.

Barcelona have four players in the Spain squad in Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Ferran Torres, and Fermin Lopez.

Another Barça star who would have been a shoo-in in the squad if not for an injury was Gavi. The 19-year-old La Masia sensation missed out on the Euros due to the ACL injury he sustained last November.

While Gavi not might be present with the Spain squad in Germany, he is still considered a crucial part of the setup under Luis de la Fuente.

And that is something that the King of Spain, Felipe VI, acknowledged during a chat with the Barcelona wonderkid earlier this week while extending a special invite to him for the Euro final.

Gavi was one of the guests at the Princess of Girona Foundation (FPdGi) awards ceremony, presided over by King Felipe VI and Princess Leonor on Wednesday.

The King and Gavi chatted for a few moments after the event and the monarch told him (h/t SPORT): “See you at Sunday’s final in Berlin. You can’t miss it because you’re part of that team.”

Gavi is still recovering from the serious knee injury he suffered on 19 November against Georgia, which has prevented him from taking part in the European Championship in Germany.

The La Masia midfielder underwent tests yesterday on the first day of pre-season but a return to full training is still at least a couple of months away.
